紅藻植物門（Phylum Rhodophyta），真正紅藻亜門（Subphylum Eurhodophytina），真正紅藻綱（Class Florideophyceae），マサゴシバリ亜綱（Subclass Rhodymeniophycidae），イギス目（Order Ceramiales），コノハノリ科（Family Delesseriaceae），サルコメニア亜科（Subfamily Sarcomenioideae），アヤギヌ連（Tribe Caloglosseae），アヤギヌ属（Genus Caloglossa）

分類に関するメモ：ササバアヤギヌは，Caloglossa leprieuriiあるいはC. leprieurii var. hookeriとされてきましたが，Kamiya et al. (2003, 2004) は，C. leprieuriiとC. vieillardiiの分類を整理し，セイヨウアヤギヌをC. leprieurii，ササバアヤギヌをC. vieillardiiとして区別しました。
