褐藻クロガシラ属（Sphacelaria）の体上に着生していました。

Zuccarello et al. (2011)は，SSU rDNA，rbcL，psbA遺伝子を用いた分子系統解析を行い，Erythrotrichia carneaに複数の隠蔽種が含まれていることを示し，イギリスウェールズ地方で採集，作成した培養株をエピタイプ指定しました。日本で採集されたE. carneaはエピタイプを含むクレードに含まれるので，E. carneaとして問題ないと思いますが，クレード内で若干の差異が認められるようです。
