河川の河口域，すなわち汽水域に生息しています。アカオビシマハゼに近似しますが，頭部の腹面に白点があることで区別されます。正直なところ著者はアカオビシマハゼの存在を知らなかったのですが，図らずも特徴を捉えた写真が撮れていました。
