分類に関するメモ：1990年代頃まで「ハイミル Codium adhaerens」と呼ばれてきた種の1つです。Silva et al. (1996) と吉田 (1998)はC. adhaerensは太平洋には分布しないことから，日本産のものをナンバンハイミル（C. arabicum），ハイミルモドキ（C. hubbsii），ハイミル（C. lucasii）の3種に充てました。 Shimada et al. (2007) は，匍匐性ミル属（Codium）の分類を再検討し，オオハイミル（C. dimorphum）とクビレハイミル（C. capitulatum）の2種を加えるとと共に，5種の分類学的特徴を整理しました。
